Take some task with which you are very familiar, such as automobile repair, knitting, medical diagnosis, scheduling, or whatever. Critically discuss what kinds of representations and procedures could most effectively contribute to understanding how people perform that task. Be sure to consider the full range of kinds of representation we have considered in class (logic, rules, concepts, analogies, images, semantic networks, distributed representations, societies, emotions, etc.), although you may focus on one or two that seem most relevant. The topic may not be the university or wardrobe selection since they are discussed in the textbook.
You may also select a different topic relevant to the course, but be sure to get it approved by me well in advance.
A 1-page outline of your essay should be handed in by March 6.
Your essay should be handed in no later than Friday, April 4. It should be typed, double spaced, and no longer than 3,000 words (approx. 10 pages).
